PANAM
APP
The goal of this project was to design an app for an airline that no longer exists, intended for the average user. The usability and functionality were determined through user testing, interviews, wireframes, prototyping, and other methods.
Objective
Challenges
Studying and understanding the needs of typical airline app users to determine what features are essential versus what are considered luxuries.
Meeting all user needs for the app while maintaining simplicity in its functionality and usability.
Designing an airline app that stands out aesthetically and functionally, competing effectively with other offerings in the market.
Research
This was my very first time building and designing an airline app from start to finish. I conducted my own research, designed studies, and learned how current airline apps function. I downloaded multiple apps to study the current processes for passenger flight check-in and flight selection. Overall, these apps were simple to use and functional. However, I discovered that they lacked aesthetics and basic usability. Some of the design elements of these apps were confusing during navigation or when completing certain tasks. It became clear that these apps could be improved.
Interview
Application Clutter
While doing research, I interviewed many people to see what they think are major issues with current airline apps. The majority of those interviewed stated that airline apps were extremely cluttered with unnecessary information. This causes difficulty with navigating the app and booking flights.
One particular suggestion stood out to me from one of the interviews. This person requested that the app should allow the user to see current popular flights and popular deals. Implementing this feature would help simplify the booking process and could bring large benefits to the company with these flight promotions.
Incorporating Popular Flights
Some of the interviewees asked for quicker access to their ticket or itinerary. To access your tickets on most airline apps, you are required to find your flight details and confirmation number. Then you must press multiple buttons to see the ticket. By simplifying this process in the app, airlines can increase customer satisfaction.

Unique Design
The main unique feature of this application is the home screen design. The screen keeps aesthetics to a minimum, and also shows all the popular flights that are available during the time both domestically and internationally.

Booking Process
The overall booking process design was simplified to create a more enjoyable experience.
To create a more convenient experience, I incorporated a button to allow easier access to user tickets. If a user doesn’t have a ticket, an error notification will appear and the user will be given the option to book a flight as an alternative.

Final Screen Design
This was my first UI/UX project that I completed from start to finish. This project taught me the importance of process and feedback when developing an app or website. Coming from a background where creativity and aesthetics are the main focus, it was a good challenge for me to understand how other people would interact with the product I created. For these user-focused designs, aesthetics are not the main priority, but rather functionality. From this assignment, I learned how important user feedback is for the overall success of the app. I also learned that I love collaborating with others to create a product that will meet user needs and simplify people’s lives.
